Episode 34 – Alex Walker Smith

I write music for film, animation, and video games. I’m also a professional voice actor, playing characters in video games and animations, and sometimes the “every man” in commercials. I grew up in a family of musicians, so I was surrounded by genres ranging from baroque to modern vocal jazz. I gravitated toward classical piano and film scores, and was particularly influenced by the works of Danny Elfman. I never actually had any professional training until college, where I learned proper music theory and piano performance. After college, I began working as a composer and voice actor with animators on YouTube. I later landed a full-time position as a composer at a game audio company called SomaTone, where I worked on a plethora of games, including mobile, computer, and AAA titles. After I left SomaTone, I moved to Los Angeles to become a full-time freelance voice actor and composer. I still do commissioned work, but I’m also building my own game audio company, a partnership we call Givit Sound!
