This Moment in Music with Hal Walker

a laid-back musical exploration of the creative process

Episode 13 – Ture Butler

June 8, 2020 by Hal Walker

My full name is Ture George Pierce Butler, I usually go by Ture, but since it’s hard to pronounce correctly outside of Scandinavia, George works fine to! I am a 28 years old, part time musician from Stockholm Sweden, but I live in the south of Sweden since about six years in the beautiful town of Malmö. I started my musical career as a boy soprano in church and I’m heavily influenced by classical music in my own sound. I’ve played cello and bass but I often find myself turning to the piano or ukulele where I’m most comfortable. I’ve played in several music constellations, touring Sweden with Reggae bands, rapping, singing and playing. Recently I’ve turned to my own project where I try to write and play music that I’m inspired by whiteout restricting boarders that specific genres tend to bring. I initially looked in to TikTok to see what the fuzz all my students where talking about was, but it didn’t take long for me to get hooked when I realised what a unique platform for music tiktok actually is. My process is very dependent on my voice memo on my phone, it’s full of ideas that pop up when I least expect it. I tend to be inspired at the worst possible moments, like when there’s 5 min left til my bus departures or when I’m working on something else with a tight deadline. My biggest problem concerning music is staying on one track and actually finish it, I usually have a thousand ideas at ones and they tend to collide. I write music in both Swedish and English and I wish to expand my language understanding to french so I can write music in french too. (Such a beautiful language)
